A huge protest in the center of Budapest

More than 70 thousand protesters rallied

More than 70 thousand protesters rallied on the Free Press Road in Budapest for the “We Don’t Like This System” demonstration. A range of orators spoke up against the restrictive policies of the Orban government and its blatant disregard of the law, while remembering those who went to the streets on another 23rd of October, in 1956, when the protestors also demanded the reinstation of their political and personal liberties.

At the end of the protest, the organizers announced that they would organize an election campaign for an „alternate president” for Hungary, as the current one is mostly known for his spelling mistakes. “One Million for Freedom of Press in Hungary”, the Facebook group which launched this new civil movement for free press and organized today’s demonstration, will run this campaign until the next large demonstration, which will take place March 15th, another major national holiday.

All members and symphatizers of the movement will be able to nom-inate persons who they think best embodies the values they would like to be represented in the mostly symbolic position of the President of Hungary. A careful voting process will lead up to a final vote, whereafter the person who best embodies the moral and cultural values and sympathies of hundreds of thousands of people will be presented as our “alternate president”, on 15th March, 2012.
